Leopard Trophy Vessel Inspired the Thanda Fabric Collection

Molapo Mokoena has created a triumphant artwork in this Leopard Trophy Urn. The hellenistic style draws inspiration from ancient greek sculptures and the arch of the leopards on top of the urn evokes a feeling of victory. The leopards are sculpted in a mirror image, with the repeated pattern creating a rhythm through the artwork.

Sthabiso Hadebe has added a medley of animals along the body of the vase, taking inspiration from some of the smaller creatures that can be found in the African bush. The Pangolin and hornbill sit amongst wild magnolias and seed pods. The soft palette he has chosen contrasts with the bold patterning which draws inspiration from luxury textiles and evokes the feeling of a vintage Missoni dress on a summer evening.

Made by Molapo Mokoena and painted by Sthabiso Hadebe
