Product description
Alex Sibanda and Slindi Mchunu lean toward abstraction in this artwork depicting a multi-horned and armour-plated rhino. The natural folds of the rhino’s skin in this version are exaggerated to suggest a suit of armour, echoing Albrecht Dürer’s iconic depiction of a rhino in his 1515 print. Dürer’s rhino also features prominent armour plates adorned with a range of spots and scales.
Sibanda and Mchunu’s rhino features two extra horns, and a depiction of barbed wire within the painted designs, speaking simultaneously of efforts to keep threat away from the rhino and the need to contain the rhino in protected wild spaces.
