Praying Mantis Teapot
Inspired by the Hoopoe leaves wallpaper design, the intricately sculpted petals of the beautiful blooms which cover the sides of the teapot offer refuge to a horde of insects.
Sculptor Thulani Mntungwa has used the form of the praying mantis to form the lid and the handle of this distinctive teapot.
Mlungisi Vilakazi has painted a variety of intricate patterns to bring this piece to life, including the subtle use of the hoopoe pattern on the base of the teapot. His colour palette is a fresh combination of greens and pinks reflecting the colours of Spring.
