    Product description

This vessel, created by Victor Mtshali and Wiseman Mpofu, celebrates the often-overlooked Marabou Stork. Appearing in their natural wetland habitat, two Marabou Storks are elegantly balanced around the vessel. One of the largest birds in South Africa, the Marabou Stork’s name comes from the Arabic word meaning “a dervish with supernatural powers.” In many cultures, the stork is symbolic of family and in the context of South Africa, where the Marabou Stork is on the “near threatened” list, is also a reminder of the importance of protecting our previous wetlands for future generations.

Made by Victor Mtshali and painted by Wiseman Mpofu
