Covid Turtle and Monkey Howdah

The turtle and monkey Howdah is a whimsical take on the traditional southeast Asian carriage. The Howdah is deeply entrenched in many Asian and Arab cultures and Victor Mtshali and Allan Ndlovu have paid their respects by creating a whimsical sculpture of a careful turtle and his royal leopard and monkey in the crows nest searching for a different and safer shore. These characters laze atop the turtle and enjoy the scenery. The turtle, signifying patience is belted up to the safety raft, tied to his plated armour. Victor Mtshali has twirled vines around the pillars of the canopy.

Allan Ndlovu has set the kingly cat atop a red carpet and added gold lustre to signify the divine and the importance of conservation. He has poured detail and attention into every facet of this thrilling sculpture. From the turtle's serious expression to the monkey's cheeky grin. This is a wonderfully captivating artwork.
