Zulu Family Scene
Senzo Ntshalintshali has sculpted the woman kneeling in front of the man, his shield and spear in one hand as he tenderly reaches for his wife. Their child crawls on the floor. This sculpture is filled with tenderness which juxtaposes the powerful imagery of the traditional Zulu shield and spier, playing with the yin and yang effect of masculine and feminine energy. Wiseman Mpofu has painted the isicholo, the traditional Zulu hat, with a beautiful floral design which then carries on all the way through the sculpture in a medley of blues, greens and warm yellows. The clothing is painted in a leopard inspired print with accents of red, which adds extra magic to this beautiful artwork.
