Kananelo Falatsa

Born in Maseru, Lesotho, on 26 October 2002, Kananelo Falatsa attended Jabula Combined School in Lidgetton. Although formal art was not part of his education, he always enjoyed sketching and expressing his creativity through drawing.

Inspired by rugby, cooking and sketching, Kananelo first encountered Ardmore through school visits and neighbours connected to the studio. Today, he draws inspiration from artists Wiseman Mpofu, Siyabonga Mabaso and Mthulisi. Grateful for the opportunity to learn ceramics and painting, Kananelo continues to develop his artistic skills while embracing Ardmore's rich storytelling tradition.

Kananelo has a particular appreciation for the lush foliage and natural surroundings that inspire his work. His beautifully painted ceramic pieces feature dense vegetation, intricately entwined with the animals that form the focal point of his compositions. He particularly enjoys painting wild dogs and leopards, capturing their character and realism while bringing the natural world to life through his detailed brushwork.
