Relebohile Tjakata was born in Maseru, Lesotho in 1993. She matriculated from the Hlalele High School in 2014.
Although she was accepted atthe National University of Lesotho, she had not the means to take advantage of the opportunity.
She moved to KZN in 2016, where she worked at Barneys chicken farm for a year.
She heard about Ardmore through Moshe Sello atop Ardmore sculptor, and was desperate to join in 2016, but she had to wait for the Ardmore Winter School in take in June 2017.
Tjakata chose painting as her career as she loves painting the designs of the Sotho blanket patterns, that have now given her an identity.
In 2020 on the Online Ardmore Exhibition, Tjakata’s Sotho designs on the Candles of Hope had a great response and found their way into homes across the globe.
